Homeless Rights Protection & Advocacy Initiative
At the Homeless Rights Protection & Advocacy Initiative (HRPAI), we envision a world where everyone has access to essential resources and opportunities. Too many people experiencing homelessness face daily violations of their fundamental rights, making it even harder to secure stable housing. HRPAI works to protect these rights, empowering individuals to overcome these challenges and find a path to housing.
HRPAI focuses on empowering individuals through education and resources. Our goal is to prevent and end the violation rights for those in our communities without homes. Our educational resources are one component of a greater strategy
Those experiencing homelessness often face violations of their fundamental rights, making it even harder to escape homelessness. HRPAI provides advocacy services & raises awareness about critical issues involving human rights. We advocate for those who may lack the resources and are in vulnerable situations due to their lack of housing. We also actively engage in meaningful dialogues with organizations and people in our communities.
Cities often ban sleeping, sitting, or panhandling in public, effectively criminalizing homelessness itself.
Homeless encampments are frequently swept, with individuals' belongings, including vital documents and medications, confiscated and destroyed.
Homeless people face injustice in housing, employment, and access to essential services due to their housing status.
Homeless individuals experience disproportionately high rates of physical and mental health issues, yet often lack access to adequate healthcare.
Lack of a permanent address and forms of ID creates barriers to voting, disenfranchising homeless individuals.
Homeless individuals may have difficulty accessing legal representation or understanding their rights when facing legal issues.
Homeless individuals are significantly more vulnerable to violent crimes and hate-based attacks.
Shelters often have limited capacity, strict rules, or may not accommodate families or couples, leaving many without safe options.
